Khan admitted in an interview with the BBC that she used to be a lot heavier when she was young. She said that when she was living in New York, she indulged in a lot of food. However, she decided to get healthier by buying vitamins and vitamin-rich food at a shop next to her favorite restaurant. “You know, I lived on 110 on Broadway and there used to be a Pizza place called Tom’s Pizza. And for the first two years of my college, I have eaten so much of that pizza. I didn’t even realize that there is this Vitamin shop, right next to Tom’s Pizza, where you get these protein bars, salads. I think that was it, the movement from Tom’s Pizza to Vitamin shop. And somewhere in the middle of that, I lost weight.”

She says, “When I’m working, I eat haldi, spinach, and hot water.” "If you're having a hard time losing weight, adding a little extra spinach to your diet may help. A 2014 study published in Appetite found that, among a group of 38 overweight women who were given either a beverage containing spinach extract or a placebo, those given the spinach extract experienced up to a 95% reduction in food cravings and lost 43% more weight than members of the control group during the study period," says our sister site Eat This, Not That!

Sharma’s go-to drink is fresh lime soda. “Limes are packed with antioxidants and phytonutrients," says Carly Sedlacek RDN, LD. “Limes are low in calories, high in micronutrients and punch above their weight with regard to both water and fiber content. They’re really good for us, but most of us aren’t going to make a snack of them. The juice — without added sugar — is the best we can do.”

Sharma loves running outside, especially at the beach. “There’s good evidence that spending time outside can reduce stress, depression levels, and anxiety,” says Josh Lawler, a UW environmental & forest sciences professor. “We suspect that one of the routes for the physical benefits is through [the] decreased stress and anxiety.”

3. She Chooses Happiness

Sharma says she chooses happiness in her personal life. “I don't date much but I have had rough patches in relationships. Ups and down are part of life and moving on is an art of life,” she says. “Break ups were there but that all made me so strong and I am a girl who looks at the broader aspect in life. So pain was there but feeling the pain and being sad is a choice.

So I chose happiness. It took time to heal but today I learned happiness is the most important thing in this world.”

Sharma loves to take baths. “Taking a bath has great physical and mental health benefits,” says family medicine provider Amy Zack, MD. “Soaking in a tub is something many people have access to but don’t take advantage of enough. But it can be beneficial for a lot of people.”

When it comes to her career, Sharma loves the benefits creativity brings to her life. “Artist is an artist, no matter where he/she performs," she says. "It’s always a pack of feelings and entertainment which we have to give to the audience. Films and music videos both tell a story. The only difference is that films are on a larger scale in every form, while music videos take less time but require the same level of consistency and hard work as an artist."

Khan tells Vogue that she actually enjoys working out. Therefore, it’s easy for her to get some exercise in on a regular basis. “I feel my most beautiful right after a workout. I think that I feel emotionally, mentally and physically healthiest. I just feel happy, positive, rejuvenated, energised, hence beautiful.” "Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn," says the Mayo Clinic. There were so many different types of classes in that city, from functional training to boxing to cycling. But because I was so overweight at the start, my routine was more about cardio-heavy workouts like walking, cycling and hitting the treadmill—so that I could lose the weight before entering the intermediate forms of exercise.”

Khan tells Vogue that Pilates is both her favorite and her most important part of her fitness routine. “Pilates is definitely the backbone of my fitness,” says Khan. “It strengthens body balance and works on your core, which is the powerhouse of your entire body. Doing Pilates has enabled me to gain strength that's not only helpful in looking good but also in boosting physical stamina.”

4. She Edits Her Workout Playlists

Khan tells Vogue that she loves to listen to music when she works out. However, she sometimes likes to edit the songs she uses. “I recently discovered that on YouTube you can change the playback speed of songs. So now, I can actually work out to pretty much any song depending on the pace of it. I can always make it 1.25, 1.5 or two times faster than the original track, so that makes it a lot easier.”

In this interview with Vogue, Khan revealed the best advice her mother gave her. She said that her mother encouraged her to stay true to herself at all times. “I feel the best [one] she has given me is to be yourself. The world that we live in, [it] has no place [for you] to be anybody else. You should just be proud of who you are, discover who you are, and continue to just be who you are always.”

It is a form of deadlift with noticeably less bend in the knee, leading to greater hamstring engagement than traditional deadlifts.
