1. She Works With a Trainer

Sara works hard with a trainer, in a series of floor exercises using medicine balls and various weights when her body can handle it. She loves kettlebell rows and squats. “These are SO much harder than they look but get a good ?[butt] ya gotta work them ?[ham] strings,” she said. She knows the importance of hard work.
2. She Works on Gaining Muscle

Sarah often shared videos and posts of her workouts with a goal of gaining strength and muscle. After being diagnosed with kidney dysplasia and undergoing a transplant, in addition to other health issues like endometriosis, it’s been hard for her to really hit it hard in the gym.
“I haven’t really been able to work out the past four months,” Sarah told PEOPLE. “It’s just been putting me in a more anxiety ridden place. You have all of these plans and something happens where you’re not able to do it.” That said, she slowly works on things like resistance training, not pushing her body too hard, but doing what she can to the fullest.
3. She Prioritizes Strength

The end goal for Sarah has always been strong over skinny. “I love to be STRONG,” Sarah said. “Strength is everything. Being strong has gotten me where I am. Both mentally and physically. I am not a fan of ‘being skinny,'” Hyland wrote on her Twitter.
4. She Has Fun

Oftentimes, the workouts that celebrities do are strenuous and seem miserable, but Sarah likes to keep it fun. In the past, she’s struggled with weight gain and body shamers. Opening up about her health journey, and her goals to gain a little muscle and tone up, has made her story relatable and approachable.
5. She Eats a Lot of Protein

“I am working hard to maintain my weight by eating as much protein as possible and continue to be strong and healthy,” Sarah said. “There’s no need to worry. I’ve been down before and I’ll probably be down again in my lifetime but I’m steadfast and solid and will conquer my obstacles.” Sarah is really loving seafood, which is a great way to get some lean protein in your diet. Besides the health benefits, it tastes great!
