Selena Gomez in Two-Piece Workout Gear is "Reflecting on Emilia Pérez"
Selena Gomez is dancing – in her two-piece workout gear. In a new social media post the actress and singer give her followers a behind-the-scenes look at the "many adventures working on Emilia"—referring to Emilia Pérez, her Oscar favorite—"from my audition to head banging at half the speed as what we shot it," she writes in the caption. "Pretty sure I got whiplash in the best way." How does the star approach health and wellness? Here are some of her top diet and fitness tips.
Fuel Your Body with Protein, Veggies, and Whole Grains
Selena's approach to diet? Fueling her body with food that will sustain her busy lifestyle, according to her trainer and wellness expert Amy Rosoff Davis, who stocks her dressing room with "veggies and protein and brown rice or whole grains," she told Byrdie. "I made a lot of rice bowls with veggies, protein, and avocado for Selena. It helped give her energy and stamina, which she needed to get through her shows. I also made healthy chicken salad with grapes and celery—it quenched her thirst and the protein filled her up."
Drink "Lots of Water
Selena also prioritizes hydration. She drinks "lots of water," Davis revealed. The Mayo Clinic explains that hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.
Drink Green Tea
Green tea serves as "a pick me up" for Selena, according to Davis. Numerous studies have shown that a variety of teas may boost your immune system, fight off inflammation, and even ward off cancer and heart disease.
Strength Train
Selena does strength training workouts, mostly "interval and circuit training" that focus on "building a strong core," Davis told Byrdie. "My whole thing is toning mixed with cardio and stretching," she added. In a recent TikTok Gomez grinds through a session, doing moves like overhead arm raises, weighted squats, weighted leg lifts, donkey kicks, stretches, and crunches with a medicine ball. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:
- Develop strong bones
- Manage your weight
- Enhance your quality of life
- Manage chronic conditions
- Sharpen your thinking skills
Do Pilates
Pilates is another go-to workout of Selena's, according to Davis. Mayo Clinic supports the many benefits of the workout, which "strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health. It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.
Dance
As can be evidenced in her recent post, Selena also dances her way to a fit figure. Dancing is a great workout for many reasons. Not only does it build strength and promote flexibility, but helps you lose weight and even promotes cardiovascular function. A 2016 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine determined that people who engaged in moderate-intensity dancing were 46 percent less likely to develop heart disease or die from it than non-dancers. In comparison, moderate-intensity walkers were just 25 percent less likely to suffer heart health issues.
