She’s been doing Lagree Fitness for almost a decade. The workout is “a low-impact, high-intensity method that tightens and tones in as little as 20-minutes a session.” “I really love the workouts since then, because I have bad knees. I can’t do crazy things. And this is one of the workouts that I feel that I can finish and do most of the things without even thinking about my knees. For me, that's what hooked me to this workout,” she has said. “Because in one hour you feel like you do everything good. Like you feel like you completed one workout, then I'm done for the day. I don't have to think anymore about exercise. And actually, growing up in Latin America, there was not that culture. Right. You know, 30 something years ago.” She added: “It's not a pleasure to work out. I didn't know I had a problem until people started posting pictures of me, from paparazzi, of me eating. And then I started to realize it's like, what is wrong with me? “I try to have a routine, but sometimes it's hard because of the kind of job that I have,” she has said. “For example, I woke up today at three in the morning. So today's not gonna be a workout day for me, no matter what, I know that I'm not gonna have the energy at the end of the day. So I try to work out according to my schedule, my shooting schedule. If I'm traveling, I usually don't work out. But I try to squeeze in at least three times a week working out. I try to sleep well. And because, I mean, I think it's important when you do that kind of job that I do to sleep well.”

“I have never been into crazy diets. So I usually try to eat healthy of course, because I love vegetables and I love healthy food and juices, so I'm pretty good with that. My problem always has been my obsession with sweets and that's why I'm here today because it's one of my biggest secrets is that I've always been trying to figure out a way to get away with trying to eat something sweet after a meal,” she said about Skinny Cow.

Although she admits to SELF that she doesn’t always enjoy hitting the gym, she does try to go as often as she can. "I’m aging, and I know that it does make a difference and you can see it in the women and men that work out," she says. "Things start to change, and I’m like the only thing to do is go and take care of it."

2. She Eats Healthy During The Week, And Indulges On The Weekend

When it comes to her diet, Vergara tells SELF that she believes in balance, and isn’t afraid to indulge. She says that she mostly eats healthy during the week, and treats herself on the weekends. "We have a lot of healthy things, but we keep a balance," she says. "I do have a lot of fruits and vegetables, and we cook fresh meats. But I also have ice cream and dessert and we do that during the weekend. I try to control myself during the week."

When Vergara has an important event coming up, she has a few rituals that she likes to do. Mainly, she says that she limits her salt intake. "I try not to eat salty things the night before because I'm very sensitive to salty things and get really puffy eyes,” she tells SELF.

Vergara has incredible skin, and has been a spokeswoman for several different beauty products. She has to take care of her skin, but that doesn’t mean having a complex routine or using a ton of products. “I used to do masks and scrubs and rubs and things—I mean, I’m crazy about products—but I’ve had to simplify as I’ve gotten older,” she said to Health. “I have rosacea—it’s redness and sensitivity. If you put on too much stuff, there is irritation, so I have to keep it very simple.”

2. She Doesn’t Obsess Over Her Diet

Vergara is open about her previous battle with thyroid cancer. She says to Health that she briefly obsessed over her diet after surviving. However, she decided to just live her life and not worry about what she’s eating. ‘For a while, I got really crazy about what I was eating. But then you realize you can't live like that. You go to restaurants, and you have to eat something. You have to live your life. And no one really knows exactly how people get cancer.”

She says that she lives her life, and doesn’t worry about what’ll happen the next day. “When you go through something like this, it's hard, but you learn a lot from it. Your priorities change. Vergara’s trainer, Jennifer Yates, revealed some of the actress’ fitness secrets to Marie Claire. Yates says that Vergara does a lot of squats and leg workouts. "I had to work with her form at the beginning, because when you squat, you want your knees to push back over your ankles. I really want to protect her knees, so I put a bench behind her and wrap a resistance band around her quadriceps. She'll sit down into the chair and comes back up, squeezing her glut muscles as she comes up. You can do it without the bands, but even just sitting down in a chair and coming back up is great, it really engages your abdominals. If you do 25 of those, it's a great way to start gaining strength."

I'm still very healthy and very conscious of it, but I've gotten a little bit more lax. True Roots and True Comfort had nothing ‘white’ in them: no white flour, no white sugar, no white salt. But in Truly Simple, I bend a little bit in a few of the recipes, which really reflects where I am in my life and my new way of eating. Everything is a little bit more relaxed around here now.’

Together, they create culinary heaven. If you aren't familiar with tomatillos, they're similar to tomatoes but are slightly less sweet and are perfect when drenched in ranch.”

She says that consistency is one of her biggest priorities. “My goal is sort of, right now, just to maintain the muscle that I have,” she says. “I’m really petite. I have no hips. I’m just small.
