Her Workouts Consist of Large, Whole-Body Movements
Vergara's personal trainer, Gunnar Perterson, broke down the actress' workout to Shape. Peterson says that he likes to do a lot of large movements with Vergara, as opposed to smaller isolated movements. "If we're going to do a lunge, we're probably going to add an upper body component to it, like a lunge with a wood chop, a side lunge with a wood chop, or a rear lunge with a lateral raise, or a forward lunge with a front raise."
She Loves Pilates
Vergara tells Glamour that she is a big fan of doing Pilates workouts, and tries to squeeze in a session as often as she can. "My go-to workout is a Pilates workout on the Lagree Fitness Megaformer machine," she says. Pilates works. "Pilates mat exercises contributed to increase in the strength and endurance of core muscles in post delivered women and even improve the fitness of women by improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness and decrease in the girth measurements," one study found.
She Goes To Spin Classes
In addition to Pilates, Vergara also loves to go to spin classes regularly. Vergara says that the classes are her regular cardio. She says to Glamour, "I also mix in spinning classes for cardio a couple of times per week." One study found that indoor cycling combined with a healthy diet was beneficial. "According to the results, the indoor cycling and the low-calorie diet helped fight overweight and control serum lipids."
She Takes A Break From Working Out
Vergara's trainer, Jennifer Yates, tells Marie Claire, that she makes sure that the actress takes a few days off from working out. Yates says, "It's fine to give yourself a break—your body comes back stronger. You have to let your body rest, even if you're working out a few days during the week. That's why we rotate with Sofía. We have days in between when she rests. If you exhaust the muscles, you're more prone to getting injured."
She Believes In Moderation
Vergara is a big fan of moderation when it comes to her diet. "We have a lot of healthy things, but we keep a balance," she says to SELF. "I do have a lot of fruits and vegetables, and we cook fresh meats. But I also have ice cream and dessert and we do that during the weekend. I try to control myself during the week." "Is it a challenge for you to eat all five servings of fruits and vegetables every day? The 1-2-3 approach can help you pack in all your servings — and more — throughout the day," says the Mayo Clinic. "Get six servings by eating:
- 1 serving with breakfast
- 2 with lunch
- 3 with dinner and snacks."
