Her Metabolism Is Too Fast

Most people dream about having a super fast metabolism. However, it's not all that it's cracked up to be, per Jalil. "My problem is that I lose weight very quickly so I have to diet to gain weight, I have to eat a lot," she said on VLA. It's important to take control now, because your metabolism peaks in your early 20s and slows itself down at a pace of around 2 percent every decade. According to some experts' calculations, your body burns 200 fewer calories per day at the age of 45 than it did when you were 25. That means that if you didn't change anything about your eating habits or adjust your behavior in the slightest, you'd be gaining upwards of 20 pounds a year!

Tábata maintains a very healthy diet, starting the day with a blackberry, blueberry and cherries smoothie, breakfast of papaya, scrambled eggs with chili and flour tortillas, followed by a noon snack of  oatmeal cookies and cranberry juice. "I prepare myself a vegetable soup with chicken broth, a roasted breast with rice and some tortillas, sometimes guacamole," she said about lunch. Her afternoon snack consists of an apple or a banana to finally dine on cookies with turkey ham, olives and olive oil, always with a glass of water in hand.

She Eats Small Portions

Eating the right portion size is key, per Tábata. "Use the palm of your hand for portions of food and give the body what it asks for," she said on VLA. "Many foods match up to everyday objects. For example, a medium pepper is about the size of a baseball and equals one vegetable serving. While not all foods match visual cues, this method can help you become better at gauging serving sizes and practicing portion control," says Mayo Clinic.
