Tacos For Dinner

Emma loves protein-packed tacos for dinner. "One of the main issues for people trying to lose weight and for athletes burning a significant amount of calories is that they are constantly hungry," says Dana Ryan PhD, MA, MBA. "This is where consuming protein can be especially beneficial because it helps you feel full for a longer period of time as compared to carbohydrates or fat. So for anyone trying to minimize unhealthy snacking, look for snacks that are higher in protein."

She Knows When To Slow Down

Emma isn't afraid to take time off from her hectic schedule if needed. "Sometimes you really do have to take a step backwards (or many) to move forwards! I've spent the past few months focusing on being happy and healthy!" she says. "I spent time with my family and friends and traveled. These things make me happy! I've rehabbed my shoulder diligently & implemented new eating habits (with a few exceptions over the holidays) to get my skin condition (psoriasis) & health better. Now look at me! Almost fully healed through diet! What we put in our bodies really makes a difference. I haven't been in a gym in 3.5 months & surprisingly I feel pretty good (especially with some good hotel lighting 😜)."

She Loves To Hike

Emma loves to get outside on a brisk hike, the more dramatic the scenery, the better. "Hiking is a weight-bearing exercise, which means your bones and muscles work harder against gravity," says David Heber, MD, PhD, FACP, FASN. "This helps your body build or maintain bone density, which is critically important as we age. Studies show bone density declines about one percent a year after age 40. Getting outdoors for a hike could have a positive impact in helping to slow down this loss. The CDC also recommends 30 minutes of physical exercise such as brisk walking, 5 days a week. As an added bonus, hiking outdoors brings you a dose of Vitamin D from sunlight exposure. Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption, which we need for bone health."

Living With Psoriasis

Emma has lived with psoriasis for years, but refuses to let it stop her from achieving her goals. "For years growing up I was ashamed, embarrassed and depressed," she says. "My greatest fear was that I would never achieve my dream of becoming a Professional Wrestler and working with the WWE. But I did it! Today, I stand here as a strong, confident and successful woman that has achieved those impossible dreams and knows that appearance does not change who we are and what we can become."

Eggs and Avocado For Breakfast

One of Dashwood's go-to breakfasts is avocado toast with poached eggs. "Avocados are high in fat with 60 percent of this being monounsaturated fats, which research suggests helps to protect against heart disease and lower blood pressure," says registered nutritionist Jo Lewin. "They are also an excellent source of potassium, folate and fiber, all of which benefit the heart and cardiovascular system. The oils supplied by avocado include oleic acid and linoleic acid. These unsaturated fats are recommended as part of a balanced diet to help manage cholesterol."
