1

She Drinks Guava Juice

Prakash likes to make delicious beverages with guava juice and lime. "Now more than ever it's important to maintain a strong immune system," says William Li, MD. "One easy way to do this is by adding a boost of vitamin C to your daily routine. Guavas are amazingly rich in vitamins A and C to help fight off harmful germs and bacteria this cold and flu season. One guava provides double the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for vitamin C. That is five times the amount you would get from eating an orange."

2

She's a Yogi

Prakash takes time for regular yoga sessions, for her mental and physical health. "All types of yoga (including gentle or beginner styles) can enhance your strength, flexibility, and balance — important but often overlooked aspects of overall physical fitness and well-being," according to neuroscientist Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khals and Harvard Health. "Yoga fosters better sleep, which helps prevent or improve a host of health conditions linked to heart health, including depression and obesity. Yoga also encourages slow, deep breathing, which helps lower blood pressure and heart rate. And over time, a regular yoga practice trains your nervous system to be less reactive during periods of stress. Chronic stress is a major contributor to heart disease and many other health conditions."

3

She Meditates

Prakash incorporates meditation into her health and wellness routine. "Clinical research has indicated that meditation is great for the body and the mind," says Susan Albers, PsyD, psychologist for Cleveland Clinic. "Studies have shown that it helps to decrease stress, increase your ability to deal with anxiety, chronic health issues and helps you to cope with pain, to sleep better and to reduce your blood pressure."

4

She Works Out With Dumbbells

Prakash uses dumbbells as part of her at-home workouts. "We're very familiar with the benefits of aerobic exercise like running, cycling or walking, but we haven't focused on lifting and strength exercise," says Dr. Stuart Phillips, a McMaster University professor in kinesiology and Canada Research Chair in skeletal muscle health. "They're seen on either ends of the spectrum – one makes you strong and muscular and one helps you live longer but that's not true. The reality is the two, in terms of health benefits, overlap more than they differ."

5

She Jumps Rope

Prakash frequently incorporates jumping rope into her exercise routine. "You can jump rope at a slow, steady pace if you want to use it as low-impact, steady-state cardio or you can increase the intensity with techniques like high knees or double-unders (when the rope passes under the feet twice per jump) if you want to use it for HIIT-style training," says ISSA-certified personal trainer Mike Matthews. "Plus, if you're pushed for time and looking for an effective full-body workout, jumping rope is an excellent solution."
