1. Intermittent Fasting
Yến practices intermittent fasting, following a 16/8 schedule where she has her first meal at noon and her last before 8pm. “Can intermittent fasting improve your health? Losing weight and being physically active help lower your risk of obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes, sleep apnea and some types of cancer,” says Manpreet Mundi, MD. “For these diseases, intermittent fasting seems to be about as beneficial as any other type of diet that reduces overall calories.”
2. Home Cooking
Yến prefers to cook at home so she has full control over the nutritional benefits of her food. “When we cook at home, we are in control,” says dietitian Ben Atkinson. “McDonald’s fries have 19 ingredients. We can make them at home with far less — and they will taste just as good. A favorite at my house is potatoes cut into wedges, olive oil, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Put these in a Ziploc bag to mix together. Then place in the oven on a pan for about 30 minutes at 400 F. It’s only five ingredients, and tastes fabulous.”
3. HIIT Workouts
Yến enjoys HIIT workouts. "HIIT is a great regimen for people who are young and healthy. If you’re older or have heart disease, check with your doctor before trying it," says Dr. I-Min Lee, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and an expert on the role of physical activity in preventing disease. "If doing HIIT fits in with your lifestyle, go for it. But the most important thing is to find an activity you enjoy and to keep doing it."
4. Jogging For Cardio
Yến’s choice of cardio is running. “Running on hills or tough terrain is a great way to strengthen your entire body,” says Eastnine run coach Ania Gabb. “Doing hill sprints or running a route with hills is a great way to build your overall strength, especially in your legs. Your muscles work harder as you climb up an incline, but as you become stronger those inclines will feel a little bit easier."
5. Sun Protection
Yến is stringent about protecting her skin from the sun. "In the components of cosmetics, I promoted retinol, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide because they have anti-aging effects, or vitamin C helps lighten the skin,” she says. “Also, I often apply sunscreen every day. Even In the house, we still use sunscreen because the sunshine with UV beams can be shown through the glass door."
