Yalitza Aparicio in Bathing Suit is "Pretty and Happy"
Yalitza Aparicio, the Academy Award-nominated star of Roma, is spending time with a friend in Puerto Escondido. She posted a new photo on Instagram of the two of them at the beach together. She Doesn't Let Other People's Opinions Hold Her Back
In a cover story with ELLE Mexico, Aparicio talked about the struggles she faced in her career. She said that a lot of people made her feel like she wouldn't make it because of who she was. After being cast in the film Roma, Aparicio says that she has learned to tune those people out. "Before I let myself get carried away by a lot of what they said, 'you don't belong, your physique, your color, your origin, what are you doing there,' and yes I thought so back then, but now they can say whatever they want," she said.
She Wants To Represent For Others
As a Mexican-Indigenous actress, Aparicio wants to be a representation for others. "My objective in my career is to give visibility to all of us who have been kept in the dark for so long," she said to IndieWire. "The acting projects I'm working on are moving slowly because I'm putting all my efforts in not being pigeonholed because of my appearance."
She's An Advocate For The Arts
A cause that is important to Aparicio is supporting arts programs in schools. She works with the organization, Cine Too, to fund programs in her native Mexico. "It's important to save these spaces because they reach places where the arts are often not accessible," she said to IndieWire. "I come from a community where there's no movie theater, and as a consequence, the population — especially the children that grow up in those communities — has less of an interest in the cinematic arts.'
She Goes To Retreats
After the success of Roma in 2019, Aparicio decided to take a trip to relax. She decided to go to a wellness retreat to unwind. Aparicio posted this series of photos on Instagram of herself at the retreat, including her enjoying a smoothie, and going on walks. She captioned the post, "Great day."
She Hikes
Aparicio is a big fan of going hiking. Last year, she went hiking in the famous Rainbow Waterfalls, and posted photos and videos on Instagram of her trip. She posted this set of photos of herself walking through the gorgeous scenery, captioning it, "Landscapes that fall in love."
