Eat Vegan
While Samantha plays a cannibal on Yellowjackets, in real life she doesn't touch animal products. "Everything I'm eating is Beyond Meat, just because I'm vegan, so they just reassure me that every time blood sprays in my face, 'Don't worry! It's vegan!'" she told The Daily Beast.
Address Your Health Issues
"Growing up, I was sick a lot. I had a gut condition that I didn't realize. I was in and out of hospitals and urgent cares," she told The Daily Beast. "I didn't really know what was wrong with me for most of my life. It's so crazy because I've been working for twenty years now—I started when I was six—and any time I had a break and wasn't filming, I was sick. It was almost like my body wouldn't let me be sick when I had work, and the second a weekend came, I would have a fever and we didn't really know what was going on."
Focus Your Diet Around Your Allergies
Samantha learned that many of her health issues were food-related. So, she majorly changed her diet. "So now, I can't really eat anything. I'm allergic to avocados, cucumbers, broccoli, banana, cinnamon, curry, fennel, ginger. So many things. But now I'm not sick all the time, so… yay!" she told The Daily Beast. "So I'm vegan, allergic to over 30 foods, and now I found out I have GERD which means I need to stay away from foods that contain a lot of acid. So I'm just gonna enjoy a big bowl of water for breakfast. Lol time to do some research and see what I can do!" she tweeted.
Do HIIT Workouts
Samantha is a big fan of high intensity interval training. "Time to get back into my workout out routine. I'm going to @TrainingMate everydayyy. what is your workout routine?? A unique 45-minute circuit of high-intensity interval training group fitness class combining cardio & resistance exercises," she tweeted.
Use a TRX
Sammi shared this video of her workout. In it, she does a lot of exercises with a TRX system, in addition to weight lifting, and battle ropes. "These are some videos from my current workouts💪🏻 since going vegan my workouts have improved greatly🙌🏻 I was always told the opposite would happen but I feel stronger and healthier," she captioned this Instagram image.
Rely on Religion But Form Your Own Beliefs
Samanta, who is bisexual, describes herself as a devout Christian. "I was involved with a church for years. Because I loved it, I just gave all my time, all my space, all my energy. But every time I would ask about their beliefs with the queer community, I'd always get these very political answers. And I started to realize that all my friends who were part of the LGBTQ+ community were getting kicked out. And I was like, 'This is so weird, because this is a church that everyone knows is the cool, accepting church' or whatever. I realized a lot of their lies and a lot of their problems, and I was like, 'I can't do this.' So now the church I go to is very much part of the queer community," she told Popsugar.
Battle Your Demons
Samantha also confessed to Popsugar that she battled substance abuse issues. "I definitely went down a rocky path for a second," she said "I was struggling a lot with my drinking. And I went down what could have been a really bad path, and thankfully, I snapped out of it pretty quickly. And I have a mom who's like, 'You need to get your sh*t together.'"
Talk It Out and Treat Your Issues
Samantha also maintains that therapy was a game-changer for her mental health. After struggling with anxiety on the set of Yellowjackets, she dealt with her issues head-on. "I started seeing a therapist out there, which was great, but I was like, 'I need something else,'" she said. "And so, it was the first time that I really talked to a doctor about getting on an antianxiety medication, so I'm now on Zoloft. And it's helped in the sense that I don't realize it's helped, but I also don't have panic attacks every day."
