She's Committed
McDermott is committed to her fitness. She first started her journey in late 2020, and wrote about it on Instagram. "I've realised I don't post enough about the gym and I should! So here's me starting today!! It's been a long 18 months of finding out what works for my body, dragging myself out of bed on some of the days I didn't want to, walking to the gym in the freezing cold (like today), but honestly I have never been happier in myself!"
She Works With A Trainer Multiple Times A Week
McDermott works with personal trainer Chris Barker, to help herself stay in shape. Barker tells Glamour that he aims to work with McDermott at least three times each week. "A usual week would be Monday, Wednesday and Friday training with me with two additional cardio sessions if she can."
She Does Full-Body Workouts
McDermott works out her entire body. "I like to program full body days, so we are working out as much of the body as possible," Barker revealed to Glamour. "However I will make sure that we are able to focus at the same time on certain areas like her bum, for example, which she has wanted to focus on."
She Changed Her Lifestyle
McDermott revealed on Instagram that she made a lot of changes to her lifestyle. She wrote, "Can't believe how far I've come! The first pic of me was a girl who never exercised and ate whatever she wanted. She wasn't unhappy or insecure about weight…but she knew that she needed to start exercising, eating more fruits and veggies and making wiser choices in order to be healthier."
She Uses A Calorie Deficit
Barker doesn't just help McDermott with her fitness. He also helps with her diet and eating. One thing he has her do is make sure that she is in a calorie deficit. "Everyone has abs they are just hidden beneath a layer of fat, the only way we can reduce this layer of fat is by being in a calorie deficit," Barker explained to Glamour. "Whether that be from eating less or exercising more; we need to be in a deficit to reduce our body fat levels enough to see those abs."
