Strength Training
Nika strength trains to get her body ready for the basketball court. Here she is squatting with heavy weights. “If it don’t hurt, it won’t work,” she captioned the series of snaps. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:
- Develop strong bones
- Manage your weight
- Enhance your quality of life
- Manage chronic conditions
- Sharpen your thinking skills
Hydration
Nika makes sure to hydrate. She is so passionate about water that she recently worked on a Smartwater campaign. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.
Seafood
ShutterstockNika maintains a healthy diet, filled with lots of fish. In one interview she was asked about her favorite part about playing for Seattle. She responded: The seafood.
Basketball
Nika plays basketball daily. “Basketball promotes speed, agility, strength, power and endurance. It [has] also been shown to increase flexibility and motor coordination. As a result, basketball is uniquely oriented to improve fundamental motor skills that are shown to be beneficial in promoting general health,” Koco Eaton, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, founder of Eaton Orthopaedics and a former basketball player, tells Nike.
Emotional Restraining
Mühl understands the importance of controlling her emotions. “It’s been a weakness in many aspects in which I didn't look at things rationally or I just didn't hold myself accountable or just from being a leader, from that standpoint,” she told CT Insider. “You can't be a leader and be stubborn. You need to think about people around. You need to think about your team, what your team needs. Not what you want.”
