5 Things Padma Lakshmi Does to Stay Strong and Healthy in Her 50s

Padma Lakshmi is a producer, author, and model known for her time hosting Bravo’s Top Chef and Hulu’s Taste the Nation. Even though her job is to taste delicious food, Padma has go-to habits that help her stay strong, healthy, and fit. Here are five of her health habits she uses to stay in shape.
She bounces back
She lets herself indulge, especially when it comes to her job with Top Chef, but she always makes sure to get back on track. “I’m usually anywhere from a size four to a size six normally, but I can get up to a size 10 after Top Chef,” she admits. “I always go back down to my normal weight, but it takes me 10 weeks to do that.”
She’s consistent
After splurging on delicious food on Top Chef, she actually starts to crave a more normal, consistent schedule with her eating. Lakshmi starts to crave a “nice, consistent diet of normal person’s food” when the season ends. “I’m mostly plant-based at home. I’m not saying I’m a total vegetarian, but I tend not to eat that much red meat anyway in my personal life,” she said.
She boxes
She prioritizes working out. “My post Top Chef workout [is about] getting back into shape,” she said, mentioning that she leans into cardio to get toned. “I’ve been boxing for over 20 years on and off when my joints permit. I love boxing,” she said. “I mean, as much as boxing has helped me physically, it’s done way more for me mentally. And I highly recommend it for anyone who’s looking to feel more grounded, more focused and more in their body, as well as have more clarity.”
She works with her doctor
She pays attention to her health, inside and out. “My parents are diabetic,” she said. Although thankfully Padma is not a diabetic, she asked her doctor to put her on preventative medication to keep her blood sugar at a good level while filming the show. “Those chefs are cooking to win, so they’re putting in as much lard and butter and salt as they can.”
She does Pilates
She does Pilates to stay on top of her health and wellness goals. “I started going to Pilates a few years ago, because my chiropractor recommended it for my back,” she said. “Pilates changed my body. It made me strong in places I didn’t know I needed to be. I have a butt now that I didn’t have during my modeling career!”
