Purnell enjoys riding bikes, especially when she's at the beach. "You're using your big leg muscles to cycle, which is already a huge benefit," says Jaclyn Kubiak, PT, DPT. "But you can also do it in combination with strength training, or you can do it without. It's been shown that cycling reduces anxiety and depression. Mainly, because you can make it fun. You get the added benefit of being outdoors or you can go do it with friends."

Purnell loves to roller skate out in the fresh air and sunshine. "I take many of my individual clients and classes outdoors," says certified fitness instructor ShaNay Norvell. "They often tell me it doesn't feel like as much of a workout as running on the treadmill, even though they are still getting a great calorie burn."

She Enjoys Noodles

Purnell is a big fan of delicious noodles and pasta. Certain noodles (such as soba, which is made with buckwheat) offer better health benefits thanks to their high fiber content. "Buckwheat supplies fiber, and benefits from a low-to-medium glycaemic index," says registered nutritionist Nicola Shubrook. "This means it has a moderate effect on blood sugar levels and may even lower blood sugar levels. Studies suggest this effect may be thanks to soluble carbohydrate in buckwheat that makes cells more responsive to the hormone insulin and may delay the digestion of sugar."

She Loves to Ski

Purnell enjoys skiing with her friends. "Skiing gets you outdoors in the winter when we often end up on the couch and are passive," says physical therapist Scott Tremmel. "We're just not as active when the cold weather sets in, but skiing keeps you moving to continue to build up your endurance. When you're skiing, you're often out with a group of friends and you're socializing. You're getting fresh air and taking in the beautiful scenery around you. It's good for your emotional health."

She's All About Self-Care

Purnell is passionate about taking time to just be alone and focus on herself. "Self care y'all!!!!!! Take some time out of your day today for yourself💞💞💞," she captioned an Instagram post. "Read a chapter of your favorite book, do some journaling, try and meditate for a minute, write down 3 things you are grateful for, do a facemask, call a loved one, relax in a hot bath, buy yourself a treat, go for a run, clean your apartment, think of 5 things that you love about yourself, give yourself a freakin' hug – whatever makes you feel good, you deserve it ✨ life is tricky sometimes, but it's always worth it ✨ peace & love my friends, love love looveeee."
