Julianne Hough Reveals the Exercises Keeping Her Abs Strong

Professional dancer, Julianne Hough, known for her experience on Dancing with the Stars, finds many ways beyond dancing to stay in great shape and keep her body strong. Whether she’s riding the waves or hitting the slopes, she not only knows how to stay active, but how to have fun while doing it. Here are five ways that she keeps herself looking fit and strong, feeling her best.
She surfs

She rides the waves to spend time in the sun and keep her body toned. On a video titled “my day at surf ranch,” she looks happy and strong taking on the waves, with a caption, “my happy place with my happy people,” she said on Instagram.
She dances

Dance has always been a massive part of Julianne’s life. On International Dance Day, she reflects on the importance of dance to her on a video. “Reflecting on my love of dance and all this craft has given me over the years. Happy #InternationalDanceDay to everyone who feels it too,” she said on Instagram.
She lives a healthy lifestyle

In a post captioned “life lately,” on Instagram, Julianne shows off some of her daily routine. From spending time in her home gym and eating a generous portion of fresh salad greens and veggies, to sauna sweat sessions and staying hydrated, it’s clear that she’s passionate about taking care of her body.
She snowboards

When she’s not surfing, she hits the slopes in the winter with her snowboard to stay fit and healthy. “Living out my 2025 Values: LOVE & Connection, Health & Vitality, Playfulness, Hustle, Commitment, Creativity, Growth, Gratitude, Contribution, [and] Adventure,” she said on Instagram on a video of her boarding.
She weight trains

She factors in weightlifting for both mental and physical strength, and clarity. “Open up your heart and let it all go – Happy Friday – Let your light shine,” she said on Instagram, on a video montage for doing various weightlifting workouts and floor exercises. According to the Mayo Clinic, “research shows that a single set of 12 to 15 repetitions with the proper weight can build muscle efficiently in most people and can be as effective as three sets of the same exercise. As long as you take the muscle you are working to fatigue — meaning you can’t lift another repetition — you are doing the work necessary to make the muscle stronger.”
