Ashley mixes up her workouts and keeps them interesting. “I’m in the gym every day I’m not at the beach, doing a mix of cardio and strength-training, such as squats on the Bosu ball, leg lifts and lunges,” she says. “I love spin classes as well — listening to blaring music and getting super-sweaty.”
2. No Processed Foods

Ashley makes a point of avoiding ultra processed foods. “Most Americans eat a diet rich in heavily processed foods which have been made from synthetic ingredients, and packed with fat, sugar, sodium, chemicals, preservatives, food dyes and other additives your body doesn’t quite know what to do with,” says Eileen Dutter, RD. “These additional items may be detrimental to your overall health and well-being.”
3. Coffee First Thing

Ashley always starts her day with coffee and cream. “Both regular and decaf coffee seem to have a protective effect on your liver,” says Johns Hopkins Medicine. “Research shows that coffee drinkers are more likely to have liver enzyme levels within a healthy range than people who don’t drink coffee.”
4. Big Breakfast

Ashley doesn't skimp when it comes to breakfast—she enjoys fruit, potatoes, waffles, and eggs. “Breakfast-eating kids and adults get more fiber, calcium, vitamins A and C, riboflavin, zinc, and iron in their diets than breakfast-skippers," according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. “The first meal of the day can help keep weight gain away, so don’t skip breakfast to manage your weight.”
5. Swimming

As a pro surfer, Ashley is of course a skilled and confident swimmer. “Just two and a half hours per week of aerobic physical activity, such as swimming, bicycling, or running, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses,” says the CDC. “This can also lead to improved health for people with diabetes and heart disease.”
