She Runs
Jana explains to us that all of her health habits impact her sleep. Exercising daily is one way she prioritizes her sleep health. "If I don't work out or go for a run that day, it will absolutely impact how I sleep," she revealed. "After the kids are at school is when I will work out or go for a run." She generally hits the pavement 4-5 times a week. According to the Mayo Clinic, running is great for cardiovascular health, muscle building, and weight loss. "For every mile run, the average person will burn approximately 100 calories," they say.
Her Diet Is Healthy
She also tells us that diet is a crucial part of healthy sleep. "Your body needs good fuel and energy to get you to the end of the day and if I don't prioritize that, I definitely feel it at night," she says.
She Is "Hyper Focused on Gut Health"
Jana has also made a few dietary changes. "I have been hyper focused on gut health recently," she tells us, "so I've been cutting back on cheese which has been very hard."
She Lifts Weights
Jana also lifts weights. "I like to do a few days of strength training," she says. How often should you lift weights? Each week adults need 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity and 2 days of muscle strengthening activity, per the current Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans
She Indulges in Self-Care
Jana also indulges in self-care – often right before bed. "I love a good bath, reading, or journaling," she says. How can baths do your body and mind good? They have been linked to better sleep and even found helpful to minimize anxiety and depression. One recent study even found that they may even boast cardiovascular benefits.
She Hydrates
Hydration is a key part of Jana's health routine. "I drink about a gallon of water a day," she says. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids.
