Washington then transitioned to TV, starring in the ABC political drama, Scandal. Washington would then play the lead in the HBO film, Confirmation, a lead in Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, and in Netflix’s The Prom. How does she stay so fit? 1. She Works Out On A Regular Basis

In 2014, Washington opened up about her exercise and wellness routine in an interview with SELF. She says that she makes sure to workout regularly. “I have to take care of myself in order to live life the way I want to,” she explained. “It’s important to have rest days. But in the long run, if I don’t work out for, like, three days, I feel worse, not better.”

2. She Does Pilates

Experienced,Sportswoman,With,Perfect,Body,Shape,Practicing,Pilates,Hatha,YogaShutterstock

Washington tells SELF that Pilates is her go-to exercise. "With Pilates, I get to bring my true self. "I cry, I laugh. I think, ‘What do I need today?.” The Cleveland Clinic states that Pilates has a lot of health benefits. “Pilates is a form of strength training, but it doesn’t look like some of the other strength training exercises you might be familiar with. Pilates focuses more on improving muscle tone than building muscles, but the result is similar: greater stability and endurance. Pilates isn’t going to bulk you up — if anything, it’s designed to cultivate a longer, leaner look. Still, it can lay a strong physical foundation for muscle-building activities — and may even reduce your likelihood of injury.”

3. She Makes Time For Herself In The Morning

Washington has a busy schedule, however, she always makes time for herself. She told SELF that she likes to take time for herself each morning. “I try to stretch, pray and meditate right after I wake up,” Washington revealed. “It's always evolving and changing. I sit, bring my vulnerability and listen to what comes up."

4. She Drinks Lemon Water Each Day

Fresh,Homemade,Lemonade,Or,Lemon,WaterShutterstock

Washington shared some of her favorite wellness products and practices in her SELF interview. She says that she likes to drink lemon water each morning. "I start my day drinking a liter of water with lemon and sometimes a little bit of stevia." The Cleveland Clinic states that lemon water has a lot of benefits. “Acid helps break down food. That’s why there’s so much of it in our stomachs. The acid in lemons may be especially helpful in supplementing stomach acid levels, which tend to decline as we age.”

5. She Works With A Trainer

Washington works with trainer, Julie Turner, to help her stay in shape. Turner opened up about her approach to training Washington and other celebrities to The Daily Mail. “I train all of my clients in the same way, celebrity or not, I specialize in helping people get to know their physical bodies from the inside out which helps them heal from injuries, reach specific fitness goals, and transform their bodies to lead healthy and active lives.”

6. She Stays Hydrated

Hydration is one of Washington’s biggest wellness secrets. She tells Marie Claire that she does this for both her body and her skin. “Drinking water is huge for me. That's one of the reasons why I'm so drawn to products with hyaluronic acid. I really believe in the power of hydration from the inside out, but also from the outside in. So drinking water is big for me.”

7. She Cleanses

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations - "Unprisoned" With Kerry Washington And Delroy LindoAmanda Edwards/Getty Images

Washington shared some of her skincare secrets in her Marie Claire interview. She says that cleansing is important to her. “For me, cleansing is the most important thing in my morning routine. And right now, I've been using the Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser. But I do find that I change cleansers depending on the time of year. I like to keep different products around based on what my skin needs. But, I really always lean into a multitasking serum that has SPF.”

How Kerry Washington Always Looks So Amazing

Here is how the fabulously fit actress stays in shape.

Kerry Washington has been a fixture in Hollywood for over two decades, and has barely aged at all. Over the weekend the 44-year-old actress showed off her perfectly toned and taut figure on Instagram in an itsy bitsy, teeny weenie, yellow string bikini, looking seriously fit. ("Here comes the sun," the captioned it.) What exactly does the former Scandal star do to look half her age? Celebwell has rounded up some of Kerry Washington’s best diet, fitness and wellness tips and tricks, and the photos that prove they work.

1. Pilates Is Her Go-To Workout

2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Radhika Jones - ArrivalsTaylor Hill/FilmMagic

Kerry has been a Pilates devotee for several years, and has trained with Juliet Kaska and Nonna Gleyzer. “I'm a big Pilates girl and I love to hike,” she told ELLE. “You don’t even want to be in your own body when [you] show up at the gym—I didn’t for years,” Kerry told Women’s Health. “As women, we live in this culture where it’s like, ‘You have to fix this.’ Pilates has allowed me to be focused on my appearance and my health in ways that are not abusive or critical.”

2. She Does a Lot of Different Workouts

Kerry told Allure that exercise isn’t something she has to do, but actually enjoys. “I love to work out. It’s really important to me; it’s part of the culture of my family,” she said. Some of her other favorites include SoulCycle, yoga, Peloton classes, dance classes, Gyrotonic training, and the elliptical machine. “I do different things, but I’m most obsessed with water aerobics,” she said. “Now I do it with my friends on the weekends.”

3. She Loves Outdoor Exercise

Athlete,Woman,Runs,In,The,Spring,Forest.,Young,Female,RunnerShutterstock

Kerry also stays active outdoors with husband Nnamdi Asomugha. “My husband was a professional athlete, so we hike, we swim,” she told Allure.

4. Her Diet Is All About Balance

Selection,Of,Healthy,FoodShutterstock

Kerry refuses to diet. “In general in life I try to live it, not diet,” she told People. “I think that’s hard when you’re restricting a lot. So I try to take it easy on a daily basis and do what’s going to make me feel good.” Nonna Gleyzer, one of her Pilates trainers, revealed to Shape that the actress “has always been an extremely healthy eater.” “She eats a lot of vegan products, with little clean meals throughout the day,” she said.

5. She Drinks Green Smoothies and Coconut Water

Coconut,WaterShutterstock

Kerry revealed to ELLE that she is super into nutritionist Kim Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie, which is packed with spinach, celery, lemon juice, cilantro, and more. “I try to keep it consistent year-round,” Washington said. Gleyzer added to Shape that she hydrates with coconut water. “She loves coconut water, which gives her potassium and important electrolytes. With the long hours she works, there’s really no room for her to play around. She needs to be in the best shape every single day, and she definitely is.”

6. And, A Lot of Water

Pouring,Water,From,Bottle,Into,Glass,On,Blue,BackgroundShutterstock

“The things my mother always stressed were to drink a lot of water and get a lot of rest, which I used to roll my eyes at,” she told Oprah Magazine. “Now I think she’s a genius. Health and wellness really are the sources of beauty.”

7. She Doesn’t Drink a Lot of Alcohol

One beverage she doesn’t sip on often? Anything with alcohol. “I’m also not a drinker,” she told Elle. “I love a drink occasionally, but I wouldn’t be able to handle it. You see one sip, but I have to drink three cups to get the scene done,” she said. “I tend to be a ‘when in Rome drinker.’ When I’m traveling, I drink what they have there or I’ll get a special cocktail.”

7 Weight Loss Tricks From Lynda Carter

Here’s how Wonder Woman stays so fit.

Lynda Carter is the original Wonder Woman—and at 71 years old, she’s still rocking a strong and toned physique worthy of a superhero. “People are always trying to put me in a box,” she has said. “Either I’m too tall, I’m too pretty, [or] I’m too this … or ‘You’re Wonder Woman,’ or ‘You’re an actress,’ or ‘You’re a singer, so you can’t do that.’ I think that people like to put you down to one line — a synopsis of some kind. And I just don’t pay any attention to it.” Here are 7 ways Carter stays in incredible, age-defying shape.

1. No To Carbs, Yes To Ginger

The 15th Annual CNN Heroes: All-Star TributeKevin Mazur/Getty Images

Carter avoids starchy carbohydrates, as it leads to unwanted weight gain. “I am off of all bread and eat a tiny bit of pasta; because I just found that if I just go off of it because when I started eating a little bit, I put on pounds,” she says. “I drink a lot of stuff with ginger in it. It seems to help my joints a lot and just basically trying to be healthy and not be a slug and keep my body moving.”

2. Peloton Sessions

"Bad Cinderella" Broadway Opening NightJohn Nacion/Getty Images

Carter credits her Peloton bike with helping her keep in tip-top shape. “Indoor cycling is a rhythmic and dynamic cardiovascular workout that engages the entire body,” says instructor Ally Love. “By pedaling to the beat, you elevate your heart rate and strengthen your cardiovascular system. Regular cycling sessions can improve endurance, boost circulation, and enhance overall heart health.”

3. Personal Trainer and Jump Rope

The Simon Wiesenthal Center 2018 National Tribute Dinner, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 22 Mar 2018Chelsea Lauren/Getty Images

Carter works out with a personal trainer three times a week and enjoys jumping rope. “I fight [age] every step of the way!” she says. For diet, the actress focuses on portion control and not restriction. “I'm a chocolate fiend,” she once admitted. “I was awful last night, but I'm not going to do it again tonight!”

4. Maintaining a Healthy Weight

Time 100 Gala, Arrivals, New York, USA - 24 Apr 2018Andrew H Walker/Getty Images

Carter finds it easier to stay at her ideal healthy weight if she doesn’t keep clothes that enable fat gain. “I put on weight easily, but I've decided never to keep ‘fat clothes’ again,” she says. “They mean that when your jeans don't fit, you move on to your fat clothes and fill them up. When I wore the Wonder Woman outfit, I never thought about my body. I just took it for granted. I don't have a 20-year-old's body any longer. You come to terms with it. It's just gravity, baby.”

5. Rowing On the Potomac

"Super Troopers 2" New York PremierePaul Zimmerman/WireImage

Carter loves to go rowing, but she always protects her skin. “I’ve stayed out of the sun,” she says. “And I harp the same with my daughter. I have used Purpose soap for years and years, and [did not wear] a lot of makeup. I would always use Coppertone For Faces Only on my hands when I drive and sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreeeeen! I row on the Potomac River, so I also wear athletic wear that has built-in sunscreen, like Coolie. There are several that have really good protection, and some hiking gear that have it as well.”

6. No Alcohol, Ever

Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Costume Institute Gala - CocktailsDimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Excessive alcohol intake is notoriously bad for health and weight, and Carter lives a sober life. “I've been in recovery for 27 years,” she says. “And I didn't even start drinking until I was in my mid 20s. It was baffling. I could not understand why I had this compulsion. How could this possibly be that I cannot handle something in my adult life that everyone else can?”

7. Eggs For Breakfast

Celebrities Visit SiriusXM Studios - April 14, 2015Robin Marchant/Getty Images

Carter enjoys delicious, nutritious eggs for breakfast. “Eggs are a good source of protein (both whites/yolk). They also contain heart-healthy unsaturated fats and are a great source of important nutrients, such as vitamin B6, B12 and vitamin D,” says Kurt Hong, MD, an internal medicine specialist at Keck Medicine of USC. Carter even uses them for skincare benefits. "On Sunday mornings when I make eggs for the family, I'll crack an extra and put just the whites on my face to tighten and ward off any blemishes,” she says.

Jennifer Lawrence's 7 Ways to Stay Your Fittest

Jennifer Lawrence is known for her down-to-earth and decidedly non-Hollywood approach to health and fitness—and she’s open about the hard work it takes to transform for roles. Lawrence, 32, is focused on workouts and not dieting, feeling good over feeling restricted and has no interest in real-life Hunger Games. Pizza will always be part of her diet, but she makes it work. Here’s how the actress stays her fittest—and happiest.

1. Feelgood Endorphins

"Causeway" European Premiere - 66th BFI London Film FestivalGareth Cattermole/Getty Images

Lawrence genuinely loves how exercise makes her feel. “I hate saying, ‘I like exercising’,” she says. ‘But it's nice being in shape for a movie, because they basically do it all for you. It's like, ‘Here's your trainer. This is what you can eat’. I don't diet. I do exercise! But I don't diet. You can't work when you're hungry, you know?”

2. No Restrictive Dieting

Homemade,Margherita,Pizza,Healthy,Plate,Close,UpShutterstock

Balance is key for Lawrence when it comes to her diet, both during shoots and in her down time. “I don’t like when people say, ‘I only do this or eat this,’” she says. “Because I eat. I’m not very strict with my diet: If I want a piece of pizza, I eat a piece of pizza. For me, it’s easier to put that extra effort into the gym instead of putting the extra effort into: Oh no, I can’t eat that.’”

3. Yoga Sessions To Cap the Day

90th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsKevork Djansezian/Getty Images

Trainer Dalton Wong worked with Lawrence on the X-Men movies, and says she would finish each day with yoga. “It's just to help relieve the body so you can sleep better but also be able to be more resilient and be able to train and work the next day,” he says in his book The Feelgood Plan. “Inhale through the nose, filling your lower belly, lower rib cage, then up to your chest and throat. Exhale through the nose for a count of three. Keep a steady rhythm as you repeat the movement.”

4. Pilates and Weight Training

Black,Dumbbell,Set.,Close,Up,Many,Metal,Dumbbells,On,Rack, weightsShutterstock

Professional dance coach Kurt Froman trained with Lawrence for her role as a dancer in Red Sparrow. “I worked with Jen six days a week, three hours a day for three months,” he says. “As well as doing cross training in the form of Pilates, or toning and weight-training, or gyrotonics… Weight training and doing a lot of cardio is very good. The human body is amazing when it comes to support – we have to fully shock it. It’s about constantly diversifying your workout.”

5. Gyrotonics Sessions

2022 Toronto International Film Festival - "Causeway" PremiereAmy Sussman/Getty Images

Gyrotonics was a core part of Lawrence's dance training. “Gyrotonics is really amazing for strengthening the upper body,” Froman says. “It’s a form of Pilates based on functional strength through rhythmic movements. It’s similar to ballet because it’s very lengthening and you’re constantly using your breath, and it requires a lot of core work as well.”

6. Healthy Snacks

Hummus,With,Vegetables,And,Snacks,On,A,Wooden,Board,,VeganShutterstock

Lawrence likes to keep healthy, delicious snacks on hand. "In Jennifer's trailer, we would always have some full-fat Greek yogurt, some dark chocolate, some hummus and vegetables," Wong says. "It's always food that is working for us rather than against us."

7. She Works Hard For Physique

CinemaCon 2023 Opening Night - Sony Pictures Entertainment PhotocallEthan Miller/Getty Images

Lawrence says society has a skewed perspective of what ‘normal’ looks like. “Everybody says, ‘We love that there is somebody with a normal body!’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t feel like I have a normal body … I do Pilates every day,” she says. “I eat, but I work out a lot more than a normal person. I think we’ve gotten so used to underweight that when you are a normal weight, it’s like, ‘Oh, my God, she’s curvy.’ Which is crazy. The bare minimum, just for me, would be to up the ante.”

In addition to working out, Berry also prioritizes her recovery. She tells InStyle that she likes to take cold showers as a form of recovery. “For me, it's been important not to overstress my body. Taking cold hot showers has been a good recovery ritual.” UCLA Health states, “Going from a hot to cold shower — even for a couple of minutes — might protect you from circulating viruses. The shock of cold water can stimulate the blood cells that fight off infection (leukocytes). Berry tells InStyle that she likes to intermittent fast each day. “I can't skip my Bulletproof coffee each morning,” she revealed. “It allows me to fast until 2 or 3 pm.” John Hopkins Medicine states that intermittent fasting has a lot of benefits. “Studies discovered that intermittent fasting boosts working memory in animals and verbal memory in adult humans. Berry tells InStyle that she is prioritizing her mental health. “I've also found that taking care of my mental health has been crucial during these odd times. I just launched my Journal on Joy at rē·spin which is part of my bedtime routine. It is a space to record memories that make you smile and helps me focus on positivity and gratitude. Also reading self-help books on ways to stay grounded and centered during this time has been widely helpful and inspirational.”

6. She Values Her Wellness

For Berry, living a healthy lifestyle is important to her. “I was a gymnast growing up and was physically active at a young age,” she tells InStyle. “At 22, I was diagnosed with diabetes and it became critical for me to manage my nutrition and diet. It really transformed my life and taught me how valuable my body is.”

7. She Does Planks

Berry opened up about some of her favorite exercises with Women’s Health. "One abs move I do incorporate into my workouts pretty often is planks. I never did planks back in the day, but they've made a huge difference for my core strength and definition. Sometimes, I'll just hold a plank for as long as I can. My abs start to ache first, but pretty soon my entire body feels like it's on fire."

We are committed to bringing you researched, expert-driven content to help you make more informed decisions around food, health, and wellness. We know how important making choices about your overall health is, and we strive to provide you with the best information possible.

Leonie Hanne is living her best life in Thailand – in her swimsuit. In a new social media post, the German model flaunts her fantastic figure in a $750 Missoni bathing suit while enjoying a boating day in the tropics. “She dreamed of a tropical adventure 🦋,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps. “Stunning,” commented one of her followers. ”So beautiful,” added another. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Coffee

Leonie enjoys the perks of caffeine. In one of her posts from Thailand, she drinks a cup of coffee at the poolside. According to the Cleveland Clinic, drinking coffee in moderation has several benefits. “It acts on your brain to improve memory, mood, reaction times, and mental function,” they say, citing a study finding that caffeine can improve endurance and performance during exercise. It is also antioxidant-rich, can ward off diabetes, prevent neurologic disease, lower cancer risk, and ward off depression, they point out.

Pilates

Leonie does Pilates at the super exclusive London studio Pilates in the Clouds. Why is Pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, the workout has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility, resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, stress, and back pain relief, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

At-Home Workouts

Leonie tries to get a workout in daily, preferably in the morning. I still try to get up early to maintain a sense of routine. I start every day with a quick at-home workout and a homemade acai bowl, before starting work on emails and content creation. I’ve been getting really into TikTok lately, it’s funny and keeps me feeling energised!” she told Arcadia.

Community

It takes a village, according to Leonie. “Community is key! The people you surround yourself with are more important than ever, as we are all trying to find ways to stay connected without being physically present. Speaking to people either on the phone or through social media can shift your mindset and motivation more than ever before,” she says.

Small, Healthy Habits

Leonie focuses on maintaining small, healthy habits. “Do something every day that brings you joy. Even if that means having something small to look forward to, like having your favourite snacks around the house or changing into an outfit that makes you feel good about yourself,” she says.

In a new social media post, the Love Island beauty shows off her fantastic figure in a swimsuit during a tropical vacation at Kandima Maldives with Josh Ritchie. “Island life,” she captioned the series of Instagram snaps taken at the picturesque resort. How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Sophie claims she hasn’t gone under the knife. “It’s your own body, you can do what you want to,” she told Grazia, weighing in on the show’s reputation for girls getting work done. “I wouldn’t have surgery myself; I don’t want it. I’ve got such a low pain tolerance as well; I’d be squirming around.”

She Gets Her Steps In

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Sophie loves paddle boarding. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) agrees that paddle boarding is great for the core and cardio. Water sports can burn an average of 385 calories for a 140-pound male and 436 calories for a female of the same size, per a study conducted by Arizona State University.

She Skis

When Sophie hits the mountains, she throws on a pair of skis. “Ski club,” she captioned a photo. Research has linked downhill skiing to several health benefits. In addition to promoting physical fitness, it may decrease the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Studies have also found that the more frequently a person skis, the prevalence of known hypercholesterolemia, systemic hypertension, diabetes, the frequency of mental stress, and the occurrence of memory deficits decline.

She Loves Group Fitness

“You’ve got to be body confident,” Sophie told Grazia. One of her favorite sweat methods? Group fitness. “A few gym classes can’t hurt,” she said.

She Goes Snorkeling

On her recent Maldives vacation, Sophie and Josh snorkeled in the crystal clear water. Surprisingly, putting on a snorkel and fins and swimming through the water is a great workout. In addition to being a great aerobic exercise and burning calories, other health benefits may include improved cardiovascular function, stress reduction, mood enhancement, and muscular toning.

Tammy Hembrow is a fitness influencer and expert. She has her own app, called Tammy Fit. Hembrow has a lot of challenges on her app. Recently, she advertised a challenge with a workout video on Instagram. Hembrow captioned the post, “We are 3 days into our first @tammyfitapp challenge of the year & I am more motivated than everrrrr. (Sign ups are still open if you haven’t joined yet - there’s still time to catch up!! - link in bio). Soooo happy seeing so many of my girlies (and guys) in this challenge doing it with me!! And I CANNOT wait to see everyone’s results at the end of the 8 weeks. We got thissss 💪🏼”

She Does Pulldowns

Hembrow is seen doing pulldowns in her Instagram video. Piedmont reports that pulldowns have a lot of benefits. “The lat pulldown is a fantastic exercise for strengthening the latissimus dorsi muscle, the broadest muscle in your back. This muscle promotes good posture and spinal stability. Form is crucial when performing a lat pulldown to prevent injury and reap the best results.”

Hembrow is seen doing a lot of exercises with weights in her Instagram video. ACE Fitness states that using weights to workout has a lot of benefits. “Strength training with heavy weights improves muscle definition. Muscle definition occurs as the result of muscles remaining in a state of semi-contraction and heavy strength training recruits the larger type II muscle fibers responsible for a muscle’s appearance.”

She Tracks Her Meals

Hembrow likes to track her meals on her app. She talked about the benefits of this in the caption of this “What I Eat In A Day” Instagram video. “Make sure to take advantage of the calorie/macro tracking features in the @tammyfitapp during this challenge guys. It can be really helpful in reaching specific goals quicker. And it also can help educate you on your food choices when it comes to nutrition, ratios, hidden calories, overeating or under eating etc. honestly I’d recommend any beginner try it out just to get a good feel for how you’re fuelling your body!! I feel like when people think of ‘meal tracking’ it can be seen as something that seems restrictive or something only bodybuilders do. When in reality it can be such a helpful tool and you can learn things that will actually encourage long term habits 🫶🏼🫶🏼”

The Cleveland Clinic states that bananas have a lot of benefits. “A single medium-sized banana offers about 32 mg of the mineral magnesium, which fulfills around 8% to 10% of your daily magnesium requirement. Magnesium is involved in many processes in your body, including: Blood pressure. Blood sugar levels. Building proteins. Maintaining bone. Muscle function. Nerve function.”

UCLA Health reports, “Cottage cheese’s protein content and low calories make it an ideal food for weight management. Research shows that whether you are trying to lose weight or reduce your risk of overweight or obesity, eating a high-protein diet can help you feel full and satisfied for longer.”
