Don't Deprive Yourself
Nicole is all about enjoying everything in small doses. "Don't deprive yourself of anything because eventually you'll crave it and then you might binge on it. Everything in moderation," she explained to Women's Health UK. What does her daily diet look like? "For breakfast I love eggs and toast and smoked salmon or bacon, or porridge. For lunch I like maybe some soup or some sushi. For dinner, anything from pasta to rice, and meats and veggies, to sushi. When I'm going to indulge, I love pasta, pizza, I love Mexican with lots of cheese. I love French fries, or crisps – salt and vinegar crisps. In terms of snacks: almonds, coconut water, bits of coconut, baby carrots."
Mix Up Your Workouts
Nicole stays active with a variety of workouts. "In a typical workout I would run on the treadmill, maybe 20 mins, then try to do some squats, some sit-ups on the exercise ball, some yoga stretches," she revealed to Women's Health. She also likes to take classes. "When I'm home I like to take a spinning class called Soul Cycle or I like to do hot yoga – a modified version of bikram yoga – or hiking, and core power yoga in LA." And, she dances. "I mean, I heard that dancing and laughing gives you better abs than crunches anyway," she captioned a recent post.
Find a Workout Buddy
"Me and my girlfriends support each other for the gym. Because, you know, it's hard to be motivated sometimes, so when you go you push each other, – we try to do different things. We'll go hiking one day and then we'll try a sculpting hot yoga class, then we'll do a cardio. We just motivate each other," she explained to Women's Health. Thom Evans, her partner, is also one of her workout buddies. "I think it's really important," she explained to The Times Weekend magazine. "I mainly exercise for my mental health. The positive endorphins help me be creative, and Thom is the king of working out, so he motivates me. He says, 'Come on, you'll feel so much better afterwards,' and I'm so competitive I'll be, like, 'OK!'"
Maintain an Active Lifestyle
Even when she isn't exercising, Nicole makes sure to burn calories by staying active outdoors. Going on walks and hikes, jet-skiing, and surfing are just a few of the fun ways she mixes exercise with pleasure.
"Sweat It Out"
Nicole emphasizes the importance of exercising, even when it is inconvenient. "I travel so much it's so important for me to sweat it out. It's not only for physical being, but mostly for my mental well-being. It keeps me centered, focused, strong and helps me get in the right frame of mind for my work ahead. Preparation is key. Prepare yourself so when the opportunity comes, you are ready!" she wrote on Instagram.
Get Enough Sleep
Nicole knows that a healthy life starts while you aren't even awake. "Get lots of sleep – sleep really makes such a huge difference," she told Women's Health.
Don't Overdo It
For many years Nicole exercised nonstop. "But things have changed — I used to work out three times a day," she told the Times Weekend Magazine. "I'm pretty disciplined. If I'm preparing for tour videos, then sure, I'll put in the work. But the rest of the time I have to find a balance. I'll say, 'OK. It's the holidays. I'm just going to eat whatever I want and enjoy myself . . . and wear my stretchy pants.'"
Make Self-Care a Priority
Nicole stresses the importance of self-care. "Everybody is different, so you have to listen to your body," she told NetDoctor. "And you have to listen to it by taking care of yourself the best that you can. Getting in a little bit of a walk or a workout, sleeping when you can, and just trying to make conscious choices. Then you have your days where you have your fish and chips. You want your Sunday roast with extra gravy – go for it on that Sunday! And then get back in to it."
