1. She Loves Lifting Weights

McDermott lifts heavy weights and loves the mental and physical benefits she experiences with her workouts. “I’m never gonna be perfect, I’m not a professional,” she says. “But I LOVE weight training so much. This is a huge part of my life and I won’t hide it because I have had mean comments in the past!!! I tell everyone I meet to give it a go and try and stick with it. It’s so worth it… I can’t even explain the feeling it gives me!! When I walk out of that gym after hip thrusting over double my own body weight, I feel so powerful, strong and on top of the world!!

2. She Isn’t Competing With Others

McDermott refuses to compare herself to others when it comes to exercise, preferring to focus on being her best self. “Never compare yourself to someone else and the weight they can lift,” she says. “We are different, we all have different strengths. To prevent injury and be the best version of ourselves in the gym, we need to leave our ego well and truly at the door! Do what feels comfortable to you.”

3. She Doesn’t Put Pressure On Herself

While McDermott would like to have a family one day, right now she refuses to put pressure on herself. “My career is my child at the moment,” she says. “I'm in this nice position at the moment where I have a lot of babies around me, and I can get my baby fix. When I was younger, I was like, 'I'm going to have babies by the time I'm 25, I'm going to be married'. I genuinely thought that for myself, I always thought I can't wait to be a mum, and now that time has come, my priorities have shifted. I don't have the time, capacity or want to be a parent at all at the moment. I know it'll come one day but I'm not rushing it, you know?”

4. She Focuses On Fiber

McDermott pays attention to how much fiber she gets from her diet. “Fiber is so important, and so many of us don’t get enough of it. Especially when we eat takeaways and fast food, so much of the time these foods are incredibly low in fiber,” she says. “Now, we all love a takeaway and beige foods😂 but I personally like to make sure I’m getting enough fiber through other means. I need a lot of fiber in my diet so this kind of thing is an every day staple for me. But for others, fiber intake may just be something to consider 🤍 I made this fiber rich smoothie using super green powder (I use one from @nuzest_europe ) , fiber powder, banana, berries and almond milk 🤍.”

5. She Loves Seafood

McDermott loves delicious seafood, especially fish such as sea bass. “Fish is the number one source of omega-3 fatty acids,” says Julia Zumpano, RD, LD. “Just to make it more interesting, fish provide two types of omega-3 fatty acids that our bodies need called EPA and DHA. “Omega-3 improves cardiovascular health at a dosage between 1-4 grams each day. It also lowers the risk of death for people with cardiovascular disease and abnormal heart rhythms.”

Ferne McCann in Bathing Suit Says "Love is All" in Maldives

The Only Way Is Essex star Ferne McCann is currently on vacation in the gorgeous Maldives. And she is taking advantage of the country's gorgeous weather. McCann, who also appears in Ferne McCann: First Time Mum, posted a new photo on Instagram of herself spending time in an outdoor hot tub, while enjoying breakfast. How does she stay so fit? Read on to see 5 ways Ferne McCann stays in shape and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don't miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

1. She Has No Time For Haters

McCann says that she does not let body shamers or social media haters get her down. In 2016, she posted a video to her Snapchat addressing some photos that were taken of her on vacation. “I understand it’s not the best angle, I understand there probably is a bit of cellulite, but I can’t help it. I’m standing strong, I’m defiant, I’m not going to let these people get me down. So I’m going to get my glad rags on and I’m going to get to the TV Choice Awards!”

2. She Does A Lot Of Different Sports

McCann does a lot of different activities to stay in shape. She told the Daily Star that she does a lot of different sports to stay active. “I’m part of a netball team and I never let them down, I also had a badminton match that night and I’m training for the half marathon.” Ed Laskowski, M.D., co-director of the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center, "offers the following tips for marathon runners just prior to the big race," says the Mayo Clinic:

  • "The day before the marathon, consume extra calories, especially high-carbohydrate foods such as bread, cereal, rice, pasta, and/or potatoes.
  • To enable fluid absorption, start drinking fluids at least four hours before exercise.
  • Most marathoners find they perform better if they consume carbohydrates during the race. Sports drinks, bars and gels are good options."

3. She’s All About Balance

McCann opened up about her diet to the Belfast Telegraph. She says that while she tries to eat healthy, she’s also a big believer in balance, and doesn't like to deprive herself. “For me, it’s all about making healthy choices, not starving yourself or denying yourself every day. I try to make healthy choices but it’s not like I cut out carbs or alcohol or Chinese takeaways completely because they are things that I absolutely love.”

4. She’s Kind To Herself

After becoming a mom, McCann says that she didn’t try to put pressure on herself to lose the baby weight, or look like other women. She told The Sun that she was kind to herself during her weight loss process. “You can feel stronger, more amazing and more confident when you are kinder to your body. Women need to stop comparing themselves to others — whether that’s their weight, their figure, their wardrobe or even how they parent. I think mums are the worst for it. We are all so desperate to compare ourselves to other mums when really we are all doing an amazing job by ourselves and we should celebrate that.”

5. She Works Out Regularly

McCann broke down her wellness secrets and routines to Women’s Health. She says that she aims to work out at least four days a week, and rests three days a week. “I try to exercise four days a week within reason – if life, my daughter or work commitments get in the way it goes down to three. But that’s a minimum.”
