She Stays True To Herself

Lyons says the best advice she ever received from fellow WWE star Natalya Neidhart was to have confidence in herself. "To always stay true to yourself. What she said to me that really connected with me was she loved how I am being authentic and being my true self," Lyons said in an interview on Out of Character with Ryan Satin. "She would tell me how with her and her journey, she was also told 'you need to do this and that' and whatever. But she was telling me to keep being me. That advice right there was kind of confirmation to continue on this path that you're doing no matter how many – I might get hate comments, and I might get people that are saying, 'She's only popping because of this and that.' But in reality, I know that the hard work and grinding that has transpired throughout my life is paying off. So, hearing that from a legend like Natalya is like a dream come true."

She Loves To Box

Lyons is a big fan of boxing-based workouts. "This kind of boxing has many health benefits, because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture," says physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's hospital. "You're swinging your arms, moving the muscles of your arms and shoulders, increasing your upper-body strength. And when you're in the boxer crouch with a wide stance, with your knees slightly bent, you're strengthening your core muscles, back, and legs. There are studies that show trying to hit a target with your hands improves eye-hand coordination and possibly makes you feel more alert and attentive."

She Drinks Tea

Lyons enjoys drinking tea, which experts say has many health benefits. "There are really only three drinks that I ever recommend humans consume," says Dr. Andrew Freeman, director of clinical cardiology and cardiovascular prevention and wellness at National Jewish Health in Denver. "The best is water, and next would be unsweetened tea and unsweetened coffee. Everything else, unfortunately, doesn't really have any benefit, and many (when laden with sugar) cause significant harm. It makes my job very easy when people say, 'What should I drink?'"

4

She Loves Fruit

Lyons eats plenty of fruit, and particularly enjoys raspberries. "With a low glycaemic index (GI) and high fiber content, raspberries are a useful dietary inclusion if you need to monitor your blood sugar levels," says registered nutritionist Nicola Shubrook. "Animal studies suggest that when raspberries are fed alongside a high-fat diet, they help lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin response. This may be because raspberries are rich in tannins, plant compounds that inhibit the enzymes that break down starches."

She Meditates

Lyons incorporates meditation into her wellness regimen. "By observing your mind, you realize you don't have to be a slave to it," says Emma Seppälä PhD. "You realize it throws tantrums, gets grumpy, jealous, happy, and sad, but that it doesn't have to run you. Meditation is quite simply mental hygiene: Clear out the junk, tune your talents, and get in touch with yourself. Think about it, you shower every day and clean your body, but have you ever showered your mind? As a consequence, you'll feel more clear and see things with greater perspective."
